I’m an entrepreneur and investor. I started the DallasBlue Business Network in 2000 in the wake of the dot com bubble to help the local community recover. Blue became the largest networking group in Texas with events for entrepreneurs, investors, and networkers.
Two years later I was an early LinkedIn advocate. I rose to #3 in the world in total number of connections. I created one of the first LinkedIn Open Networker communities and other LinkedIn properties.
In its early years LinkedIn pivoted from being a networking site focused on contacts to a social media site focused on jobs and publishing.
You contributed your contacts. ... But you could do little with them aside from sending an update to your network and praying someone would respond.
You can reach out to contacts in your extended network. But good luck in hearing back.
You could add contacts from LinkedIn … but only if you played with them inside LinkedIn’s walls.
You can do more if you pony up for a subscription. … But it isn’t cheap at $60 per month.
We aim to do better. IYN is building a unique set of business services for executives and professionals from Open Networkers to Do-Not-Networkers that fill in the gaps of LinkedIn.
